Parametric Maypole Braider

This in-progress project is to create a working Maypole Braider to over-braid cables for EMF shielding and other applications.

The process of over-braiding allows a flexible sheath to be applied tightly around a non-uniform geometry, which contrasts ready-made braids which must be oversized or stretched to meet geometry requirements.
The assembly and parts were designed in OpenSCAD, a script based parametric CAD software, allowing the design and geometry to be fully customizable according to 33 different variable parameters.
With the exception of the 3d printed drive pinion, all parts are laser cut out of 3mm Acrylic.

The assembly is fixed using M4x35mm countersunk bolts, with a total of twelve thin-section 6702 ball bearings provide smooth motion for the six horn gears.
