FEA Structural Bracket

This project was undertaken in a team of two for Mecheng 334: Design and Manufacture 3, and received a grade of A+.

The goal of this project was to use finite element analysis (FEA) to design and optimise a structural bracket, using convergence analysis and manual calculations to validate the computational solution. Approximately thirty individual iterations were conducted in Ansys, over four major revisions in the optimisation process.

Toolpaths were then created for the part to be produced on a 3-axis CNC mill, and a tensometer used to measure reaction forces, while the internal stresses were visualised using the photoelastic method.
