This project was undertaken in 2019 to create custom leadscrews for the Vex Robotics Competition. These were designed to be used to actuate a gripper, chain driven from a differential PTO on the two lifting arm motors.
Creating the leadscrews required the addition of a reduction set to my lathe, to achieve the correct 1/8″ screw pitch. A pair of 3d printed pulleys was created for this purpose using OpenSCAD, using a GT2 timing belt. A pair of gears was also designed for the opposite direction thread, however we ran out of time to implement this.
While the leadscrews were not completed by the robotics national competition, the robot would still go on to reach quarter finals, and won the Amaze award, the highest technically judged award.
